Thoughts from Coach Madi: Yesterday, I had a conversation with a client about weight loss

Yesterday, I had a conversation with a client about weight loss

Thoughts from Coach Madi: Yesterday, I had a conversation with a client about weight loss—but not in the way most people expect. She told me one of the reasons she decided to work with me was because, in our consult, I never once asked her weight or what her weight loss goal was. And to be honest? That’s just not how I coach anymore.

Because here’s the truth: weight is just a number. It’s a total of your body fat, muscle, water, organs—your whole body composition. You can lose fat and the scale won’t move. You can gain muscle and the number might even go up. But does that mean you aren’t making progress?

Absolutely not.

I hear from clients all the time:

“I feel better.”
“I’m sleeping better.”
“I don’t wake up hurting.”
“I was able to get up & down off the floor without pain or help”
“I can play with my grandkids without needing a break”

THAT is progress. Not a number on the scale.
Now, I’m not saying no one should lose weight. But it shouldn’t be the only reason you start your journey. True, sustainable change happens when you find balance, build a routine you love, and stop letting the scale determine your worth.

So here’s my challenge: Would you tell your younger self—or your daughter—that her success is measured by a number? If not, then why believe it yourself?
Let’s shift the focus. Let’s redefine success.

*Side note: I say all of this as I go through my current pregnancy being restricted of movement & watching the scale at the doctors office increase
